Get Excited for spring, our annual Hero Sparring Championship is fast approaching!
Sparring is a martial artist’s ultimate test. Stepping onto the mats in front of a crowd, performing under pressure and experiencing the thrill of real competition in a safe and supportive environment.
Competitors may enter Point Stop Sparring, Light Contact Continuous Sparring or both.
Participants will build confidence, gain valuable competition experience and create memories they will be proud of.

Point Stop Sparring focuses on speed, timing and control.
The match is paused after each clean scoring technique, allowing competitors to reset, refocus and apply their skills with precision.
This category is ideal for those who enjoy a technical style of sparring and want to develop:

✔️ Focus under pressure
✔️ Confidence in a competition setting
Point Stop Sparring is a great choice for both first time competitors and those looking to sharpen their sparring skills.

Light Contact Continuous Sparring allows the match to flow for the full round with controlled techniques and consistent movement.
This category develops stamina, ring awareness and the ability to stay calm and focused while sparring continuously.

All matches are closely refereed to ensure safety, control and a positive competition experience.

Hero members aged 7 years and above. All belt levels are welcome and no previous competition experience is required. Full Hero sparring kit is required
Yes. Many competitors take part for the first time. The event is structured to be supportive, well supervised and confidence building for all.
Yes. Sparring always comes with risk but safety is our top priority. All matches follow strict light contact rules, are closely refereed and require full Hero sparring kit. Hero instructors are also first aid trained and there will be paramedics onsite just in case.
Competitors can enter Point Stop Sparring, Light Contact Continuous Sparring, or both.
Rules vary by category and age group. All sparring is closely controlled with safety prioritised at all times.
All competitors must wear a full Hero sparring kit on the day of the event. This includes gloves, shinguards, boots, headguard, mouthguard and groin guard.
